The Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has prepared a project proposal called 'Forests for Life - Conservation of Tropical Forest Landscapes in Thailand' with funding support from the 8th round of the Global Environment Facility (GEF8). This project will operate in four areas: Phanom Dong Rak Wildlife Sanctuary in Sisaket Province, Thung Yai Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi Province, Amkoei Wildlife Sanctuary, and Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai Province. Its objectives are to mitigate deforestation and forest degradation, promote sustainable forest management through community involvement, and generate financial incentives
From October 16th to 19th, 2023, Dr. Jeeranuch Sakkhamduang, an environmental expert from the Thai Environmental Institute and a project consultant, joined officials from the Department of National Parks, FAO, and other stakeholders in the Phanom Dong Rak Wildlife Sanctuary to gather data from local communities and relevant groups living in the forested areas. This data will be used to guide the project's activities during its implementation phase
